Mario Polzin Panopticon is easily one of my favourite atmospheric black metal acts - and Roads To The North proves why this is the case. Austin Lunn once again managed to craft a magnificent album that carries emotion, power and atmosphere in every note played. Highly recommended. Favorite track: The Echoes of a Disharmonic Evensong.

Lotus Eater Austin out does himself on this one. By pouring in all the influences from his previous records he creates a kind of triumphant, folk, BM, punk, metal, blue grass explosion, all the while propelled by gloriously restless drumming. Favorite track: The Echoes of a Disharmonic Evensong.

Waldhalla Chris I think what makes Panopticon so unique is there mixture of Black Metal and Bluegrass. I never listened to something like that before. There are excellent and intense melodies in both styles. Especially the guitar is full of emotion (for instance "The Sigh Of Summer").

"Roads to the north" is one of my highlights in 2014! Favorite track: Where Mountains pierce the sky.

Kyle Waymire There are albums that defy the notions you previously held about a genre of music. When on as harsh as Black Metal is taken to a new level of ambiance and beauty you can't properly describe is a magickal moment. That is what Lunn has given us with this album. Never a dull moment, and never a moment lacking in pure beauty, the folk elements are tastefully and effectively used throughout the already potent black metal base. Ineffable. 11/10 Favorite track: The Sigh Of Summer (The Long Road, pt III).

Spinebrain Needed to own a physical copy of this as soon as the preorders came alive. Panopticon is slowly coming my favorite atmospheric black metal act. Stunning and absolutely essential! Favorite track: Chase the Grain.

about

The wait is nearly at an end for the latest Panopticon Opus, Roads to the North. Following up the critically acclaimed Kentucky, Roads... is the logical evolution into pure and passionate artistic expression. With Panopticon's solid foundation of emotive black metal armed with musical influences that proudly uphold traditional Americana (folk and bluegrass) elements, Roads to the North expands and destroys with melodic death metal harmonies, increased technical proficiency and a full/professional sound that propels this material into new realms of expression for Panopticon. Savagery and gripping emotion... Sole visionary Austin Lunn's journey away from his home state has been beautifully documented on Roads to the North along with all the heartache, sorrow and triumph that followed him along the way.
